Regenerative medicine is an interdisciplinary field in terms of both research and clinical applications. The motivation behind this field has always been the restoration, replacement or regeneration of cells, tissues or organs in order to make possible again their normal function, lost or destroyed by any cause: congenital defects, diseases, trauma or ageing. Multiple cutting-edge technologies, either existing or emerging, are converging and ropelling classical transplantation and replacement therapies to a new level, unthinkable just a few decades ago.
